ELIGIBILITY

The YMCA College Club is a ten-year academic guidance program that helps young people reach their full potential by continuing their education beyond the high school level. Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:

• is a U.S. citizen, currently in the seventh grade and comes from a family background that has low income,
   
• is a potential first generation college graduate (neither parent has completed a four year college degree),
   

A successful applicant will also have these qualities:

• has a need for academic support in order to successfully pursue post secondary education (is not likely to go to college without College Club help),
    
• has the motivation and determination to work hard and take challenging classes,
   
• has already demonstrated some measure of academic success,
   
• has a desire to participate in all activities and agrees to participate in the program all the way through college,
   
• is likely to remain in the YMCA service area for at least six years,
   
• has family members who embrace the goals of the program and who will provide support at home.
